On November 22, 2018, Italian fashion brand Dolce and Gabbana drew fury from its Chinese customer base after its co-founder, Stefano Gabbana was exposed to be using racist slurs on Instagram. This was not a one-time affair, the brand's founders have a history of being homophobic, transphobic, and racist. Considering Chinese buyers now make up 1/3 of luxury retail sales, this is not a good move for Dolce and Gabbana, who have started trending on Chinese social media platform, Weibo.

In response to this, Dolce and Gabbana have released an apology on YouTube and Weibo in which they apologize for their actions. However, many fans are still upset, and have started a viral trend on Weibo of destroying or defacing Dolce and Gabbana products using the hashtag, Not Me.
